Koura Flight or Fight Response

At Waikaremoana I was about to beach my boat when I spotted the biggest Koura I had ever seen. It was under a log in a sandy bay, and with the aid of my net and a stick i managed to get it to shoot out from under the log and into the net.

When released the Koura behaved exactly in the way I designed my Koura fly. When fleeing it lifted up in the water and trailed its claws. At the end of each backwards dart it dropped tail first to the bottom with its claws up.

Finding this Koura was a surprise, as I had not seen any in the day time at Waikaremoana, and fortunate because I was at Waikaremoana specifically to video fishing with my Koura fly.
