Dog or Bitch

I’ve got three dogs, because my dogs have been tougher than my bitches. Bruce & Mabo go through anything, while Fudge and Lucy haven’t liked the thick stuff. Dave has been a big disappointment, he will not work in thick stuff unless there is a rabbit to flush out because he is a hungry gutted mongrel who wants to eat the rabbit.

There are all sorts of reasons to get a dog or a bitch, but the most important reason to me is their hunting ability. A dog that doesn’t like the thick stuff is frustrating, especially if they do what Lucy does and points. Lucy will point when she knows there are birds in the Blackberry or Matagouri, and she does not even go in there if I fire a shot to encourage her.
